| Take a Tour from Prague to Karlovy Vary Spa and Loket Medieval Castle - Main Trek |
Main Trek DetailsTrip Dates: Sat (Year-round) Tour overview This round trip starts and ends at your hotel or at Dejvická Station, Metro A. It is only four stops from the city center (Station Můstek at the bottom of Wenceslas Square), but it will save us a huge amount of time not to be lost in a traffic jam. There are two exits at Dejvická, take the one with escalators, onward direction (towards the airport). Once you get off the escalator, take the exit stairs on your right. We will meet at the No.119 bus stop (the airport bus). If you need to know how to buy a public transit ticket in Prague, go to our Things to do section. After arrival to Karlovy Vary (pop 52,000), you will explore this beautiful spa town on your own. You receive a map and a spa drinking cup so you can sample at least one of the springs if not all. Please see Karlovy Vary section for more details about its history or Things to do section for useful information. The town is set in charming hilly scenery and you will get enough time to walk through the Park Colonnade, the Mill Colonnade and around St Mary Magdalene’s Church before reaching Grand hotel Pupp. Loket (elbow in English, little Český Krumlov without big crowds), is named after the extreme bend in the Ohře river. The main attraction of this fascinating town (pop 3,200) is its castle (Romanesque-Gothic) built in the first half of the 13th century. You can visit for example a torture chamber and climb a Romanesque tower. Watch out for the Loket Dragon (supposedly of a friendly nature). The view of the medieval town from there is well worth it. There is an open-air theatre bellow the castle, where a lot of cultural happenings take place during summer. There was an outstanding Jethro Tull concert in 2008 with their music found the most suitable for the castle surroundings as yet (not forgetting Susan Vega in 2009). On the way back to Prague an option is to make a little detour to Chyše (pop 570). Chyše chateau and its adjoining park has been greatly appreciated especially during the main season when daylight stays much longer while visiting a chateau brewery (built in 1841) even in winter will give you an excellent opportunity to taste or take away their very unique Prokop Lager beer (natural, unfiltered and non- pasteurized).
